QAZAQ SODA PLANT PROJECT

We were awarded the order as a supplier for the Qazaq Soda Ash Plant Project by SemArco (BI Group). This project represents a strategic initiative to eliminate Kazakhstan's dependence on soda ash imports. Once operational, the Qazaq Soda plant will enable Kazakhstan to fully meet its domestic demand for soda ash— currently imported at approximately 400,000 tons annually— and develop export capacity to international markets. The facility will utilise zero-waste technology with the lowest CO2/NOx/SO2 emissions in the industry and incorporates five proprietary patents related to process improvement and waste management.

Ensuring Precision and Integration for a Greenfield Soda Ash Plant

For SemArco (BI Group)'s Qazaq Soda Plant project, one of the key challenges was delivering a fully integrated, high-accuracy weighing and data management system across multiple process points. The scope included 3 truck scales, 6 automatic weighing integrated machines, 32 digital load cells, weighing management software, 3 UPS units, 3 industrial computers, 900m of cables, and 3 sets of synchronisation, and maintaining weighing precision under harsh plant conditions required a systematic approach. Additionally, the greenfield site in a remote location posed risks of delayed commissioning due to missing or incompatible sub-systems.

To overcome this, we pre-configured all weighing equipment and the weighing management software in our workshop prior to shipment, simulating site conditions to validate end-to-end data flow from load cells to industrial computers. All 32 digital load cells were calibrated as a matched set to eliminate drift and mismatch. The 6 automatic weighing machines were integrated with the truck scales through a common software platform, with the UPS units sized to prevent data loss during power fluctuations. We provided on-site commissioning support and remote software tuning after installation, ensuring that the Qazaq Soda Plant achieved real-time, auditable weight data across inbound raw materials and outbound finished products. As a result, the system was accepted with zero integration defects and has operated within ±0.1% accuracy since startup.

BI Group is the largest innovative construction holding in Kazakhstan, a leader in the Kazakhstan construction industry, and is listed in the ENR Top 250 Global Contractors.
